With Gyft’s recent announcement that they had opened their application programming interfaces (APIs) to developers and companies, incentive companies are now able to integrate the company’s mobile gift card platform into their websites, apps and internal company programs.
Managers can then use the service to purchase and send gift cards from hundreds of retailers to employees via email, Facebook, or via text, from their smartphones. Recipients can then store multiple gift card values on their mobile device, and redeem them at the store with no need for a physical card.
“Gift cards are like cash to a lot of people and Gyft’s platform gives people the ability to select gift cards from hundreds of merchants,” says CJ MacDonald, cofounder of Gyft. “Now with Gyft's open APIs, companies can also use gift cards to incentivise and reward employees and deliver the cards via email or text.”

Endeavor SA Entrepreneur and Gyft co-founder and CEO Vinny Lingham explains that the primary focus is on mobile app developers – a group that’s interested in offering gift cards as rewards within their mobile games.

“A lot of developers out there have points, rewards, and unredeemed credits, and they want to offer a way for their users to cash out those points or credits,” explains Lingham.
