Company Snapshot

Tsikwe Molobye tasted craft beer for the first time on a holiday in Cape Town in 2014. On his return to Pretoria, unable to source this type of beer locally, he started experimenting with ingredients in his kitchen. He soon founded Stimela Brewing Co., funding it from his savings, and started operating from a warehouse in Jetpark. In July 2015, Stimela acquired its first major client, Capital Craft Beer Academy, and managed to secure Beerhouse in Fourways, as well as a couple of local bottle stores.

Tsikwe uses his own recipes and is in the process of patenting them. The actual brewing is outsourced to Swagga Breweries, currently brewing 2,000 to 3,000 liters per month, while Stimela handles the packaging and bottling of the beer.

From an early childhood Tsikwe has been interested in finding solutions to people’s problems. Growing up in Thaba Nchu, a town in the Free State, Tsikwe sold sweets at Goronyane High School, using his earnings to contribute towards his school fees. He also assisted his mother with her stationery business. Tsikwe matriculated at Kebonang Secondary School in Mmabatho, and went on to study Industrial Engineering at the University of Pretoria. He is currently completing his degree through UNISA. Lugisani Ragwala recently joined Tsikwe as an equity partner. Ragwala studied a BCom in Internal Auditing at the University of Pretoria and is now responsible for the financial and administrative side of the business.
