Company Snapshot

Vuyo’s, a fictional success story portrayed in a television advert for Hansa Pilsner, was brought to life through the vision and determination of a real-life “big, big dreamer”, Miles Kubheka. The advert depicts a “beeg, beeg dreamer” who starts a business with a small boerewors cart and ultimately owns a big company called Vuyo’s Original Wors.

After seeing the advert, Miles registered the Vuyo’s trademark and proceeded with his plans to open a restaurant and set up mobile carts selling local food.

After graduating from the University of Witwatersrand with a BComm degree in IT and Marketing, he obtained a Master’s degree in Governance and Development from Wits Business School. He also completed a postgraduate diploma in business management from the Gordon Institute of Business Science. His work experience spans just under a decade at Microsoft Inc. as a Public Sector Account Manager. He also cofounded and managed an IT Solutions Company, Notsi Group, which produced a range of novel products, including customised software for improving public service delivery.

Miles opened his flagship restaurant in December 2012, offering traditional South African braai food, such as potjiekos, gourmet boerewors rolls, pap and meats. He simultaneously set up a mobile vending cart, later adding two more carts and a food truck.

Miles has signed a joint venture with Spar, which will allow him to place his food carts outside their supermarkets to cater for customers looking for an affordable yet tasty meal on the run. So far, Vuyo’s has created 15 permanent jobs; and over the next three to five years the company plans to empower at least 300 entrepreneurs through a mobile Wors Cart franchise in Gauteng.
